For some, cosplay is life. The portmanteau of the words “costume play” is the practice of dressing up as a character from a film, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga or anime.
Those unfamiliar with the pastime are no doubt still aware of the cultural phenomenon known as ComicCon and other fan conventions around the world, where most attendees arrive dressed up. It’s become so popular that some have even turned their once-hobbies into lucrative careers.
Those who participate in cosplay have called their pursuits both terrifying and exhilarating, a “lifestyle” even. Now that it’s part of the mainstream, iflix, together with co-producers Axiata Sdn Bhd, with the support of Celcom, are proud to launch Asia’s first cosplay reality competition.
The new 9-part iflix Original series, Cosplay Heroes, hosted by celebrated actress and model Zahirah MacWilson is now available exclusively on iflix and sees 10 cosplayers from Malaysia try their hand at designing and building their own costumes to bring their creative visions to life. Their efforts lie in the hands of judges Yugana and Abudora, two of Malaysia’s most prolific professional cosplayers. While Yugana focuses her expertise on creativity and craftmanship, Abudora (an architecture graduate) evaluates each costume from a technical and practical perspective.
The ultimate winner will be crowned on 13 February 2020, taking home the grand prize of RM10,000! Don’t miss the drama, only on iflix.
